Spyhopping is when orcas vertically propel themselves halfway out of the water and stay there for a moment, akin to a human treading water. They do this to sneak a peek at their surroundings above the surface - most commonly for food, but also just to see how close they are to shore. Distributed by TubeMogul.

explore™ (http://explore.org) is a multimedia organization that documents leaders around the world who have devoted their lives to extraordinary causes. Both educational and inspirational, explore creates a portal into the soul of humanity by championing the selfless acts of others.

  • @Leadwerks Orcas are FAR from stupid. If they breach on land, it's because they are either sick, were hunting and didn't catch the tide back out or were driven there by humans.

  • @buffytariq There's whale watching tours from here to those same waters every day, I did one today and it was a truly awesome experience!

  • WOW! I never seen something like this!

  • No it's not, they get stranded on the beach because they are fucking stupid or sick.

  • @peepchick101,

I agree with you. They belong wild and free. But the oceans is getting polluted with man-made chemicals and raw human sewage. That's why these animals get stranded on the beach. The water is poisoning them.

  • Bravo!!! Please show more! Beautiful, amazing creatures of the sea!

  • WOW what an experience i would LOVE to work on a research boat and see that everyday! amazing!

  • I totally agree with ShaniaRichards and RavenChaos21! Orcas do not belong in little man-made concrete bowls - they belong in the big, wide-open ocean; free and with their caring families!!

    Wonderful footage! *favorited*

  • you are right, that is where they belong.
