Two merged videos of one adult and three juvenile Sun Parakeets (Aratinga solstitialis) north of Bayonet Point, Pasco County, 22 Jul 2009. The adult seemed to enjoy biting the feet, primaries, and uppertail of two of the juveniles. First Florida record of Sun Parakeets outside of captivity. A Mourning Dove and Eastern Towhee are audible in the background.

  • Hi MissK, sorry but you're referring to the non-official avicultural names, rather than the official name of the American Ornithologists' Union.

If you Google "Sun Conure," you'll get 113,000 hits

If you Google "Sun Parakeet," you'll get 261,000. Sun Parakeet is the official English name of Aratinga solstitialis.

  • it looks like those 2 other sun conures are picking on that 1 :(

  • sun parakeets?

  • @subpolarity

No, if they touch two wires of different charge they will get electrocuted since current will pass thru them.

  • @molinobeer in case you haven't googled the answer yet, you only get electrocuted if you make contact with the ground.

  • I think those might be mine. I have a small flock of Suns from 2005 here in Hudson. I brought them from Iowa and they used to sleep in the house at night but then they started to only come here a few times a day to eat. They did have a clutch outside somewhere and brought them home. But I think someone captured them because just a month ago, they didn't show up. That makes no sense because they came every day, morning and evening for 5 years.

  • How can they touch in several wires at a time and don't get electrocution?

  • Wow, that's awesome I live in Pasco, would love to see them if they are still around there.

  • Those are Sun Conures. They are small Parrots, not Parakeets.

  • they got all that room on those wires and they fight over that little space lol
