I sometimes return to listen to Embrace, Minor Threat & Fugazi for guidance & support in life when things seem to get a little cloudy. I'm far from straight edge but this music has definitly had a positive impact in my life and my attitude toward it.
I love the honestly & humour! Its about as funny as people trying to catogorise this type of music! And how defensive and wound up everyone gets about protecting there own crappy egos. Emo? NO MORE DRESSING UP! PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COSTUMES HOME! ;)

You all shut up. This is the origin of emo, real emo, no fashioncore bullshit, and you know it. If you understand it, well, ok, if you can't then go fuck yourself, fucking faggots and stupid kids.

Who cares if its emo or not? We all know that theres a huge difference between this and what society typically thinks of as emo.
I don't really understand why this is considered proto-emo. It deals with collective issues rather than individual ones. I was under the impression that was one of the key dividing lines. It just sounds like some guys in a garage with an analogue recorder, trying to make some music. Its unfortunate this led to an expansive, decades long argument by a bunch of uneducated self absorbed teenagers who know little outside of their own sheltered lives and harnessed minds.
