Paperback Writer/Rain was a single recorded during the Revolver album sessions--even though the 2 songs weren't put on the album itself. (Double-A side single, if you ask me!) There's some interesting stuff on "Rain" on a video here on YouTube (assuming the Team YouTube/Gestapo hasn't removed it by the time u read this) that can be found by searching:

You can hear the effects changing with the vocals...reverb...sound on sound, which at the time was looped tape like early tape echo only a very fast repeat picked up by another tape head on the same machine, which made it bigger, sort of made it ring. Fascinating to hear how the recordist worked the tracks. Cool stuff.
