This is just a bit about the damascus process if you're interested in the subject. Message me if you have more questions, I can't fit more than 1:00 per video currently (I know, I need a real video camera).

  • @KrostFrost use sulfuric acid and leave it in there for about an hour. check it every now and then. use glass cleaner with ammonia and baking soda to nutrulize the acid. and don't forget to rub the steel with a rag afterwards. be safe sulfuric acid can burn and blind you.

  • does cable leave a pattern, are the separate strands different steels is what i am getting at.

    thanks

  • What did you use during forging to make the damascus steel?

  • @fire1169101 $500 a ton? That's insane. In Pennsylvania we get anthracite for just about $130 per ton if we go get it.Maybe $150 delivered.

  • @obeyance the wootz you were reffering to isnt a forge welded steel as im sure you know it was a crucible steel and had its own properties.and yes we do have some amazingly good steels nowadays and i was saying that combining the highest grade steels u would have a better steel as far as i can figure.

  • @blacksmither1 Er, Well i know that they made it by forge welding normal steel (crappy compared to now days standards) and "good" steel. They did this because the good steel was not very common in those days. Basicly just stretching their good steel supply by doing so. What they ended up with was steel that was not as good as the best but better than normal. Now days its not called Damascus, its called Pattern Welded, because we have refined steel so much we dont need to stretch it.

  • @obeyance actually the old damascus steel was what its compared to,if you use the spring and another high carbon steel it should be a higher quality right?

  • dude i have no clue what this is but it caught my eye and i want to give it a try good video ot any tips for the first time forger

  • you have damascus steel for sale...........???
