JACOB HUNTER Singing Amazing Grace - SONGWRITER

LESS THAN 1 MINUTE LONG Falsetto @ the end . I tried to do a little bit of what i coined ' vocal acrobatics 'or what i have subsequently heard others call vocal gymnastics ......... BUT -without trying to overdo it (as so many do ) . oh and a little falsetto too for those who are easily impressed by these overemphasized singing Characteristics .

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST !

THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING " A GOOD SINGER " AND "HAVING A GOOD VOICE " ! ! !

I have never heard of anyone who promotes this idea but i hope that one day it will be universally understood and accepted .

I WILL USE ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT IS EASIER TO READ - ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WITH WEAKER EYES .

VERY FEW WOULD DISAGREE THAT MARIAH CAREY AND WHITNEY HOUSTON ARE INCREDIBLY TALENTED , TECHNICAL SINGERS . BUT DOES THAT MEAN THAT THEY HAVE GREAT VOICES ?

MY ANSWER IS " NOT NECESSARILY " .

POWER AND CONTROL DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY EQUAL BEAUTY .

LET'S IMAGINE THAT THERE WAS A WEIGHTLIFTING SEGMENT FOR " MISS AMERICA " HOPEFULS . WILL THE STRONGEST WOMAN AUTOMATICALLY WIN AS BEING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ? ?? OF COURSE NOT . THE BEST DANCER IS NOT ALWAYS THE ONE WITH THE FASTEST FEET . IT'S AN ART WHERE SPEED HAS A TIME AND PLACE WHY IS IT THEN THAT PEOPLE ARE AUTOMATICALLY DESCRIBED AS HAVING GREAT VOICES BECAUSE THEY HAVE INCREDIBLE TECHNICAL SKILL OR POWER WHILE SINGING ?
THE ANSWER IS THAT NO ONE HAS COME UP WITH THIS IDEA YET .

RULE # 1. JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A GREAT SINGER DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU HAVE A GREAT VOICE .

RULE #2. VICE VERSA

THESE TWO EXPRESSIONS ARE SO MIXED UP AND INTERTWINED THAT IT'S ALMOST RIDICULOUS .

ROBERTA FLACK , MY FAVORITE FEMALE VOCALIST , WAS A GREAT BLACK FEMALE SINGER WITH A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN THE LATE 70'S AND 80'S . SHE NEVER DID ANY " VOCAL ACROBATICS " THAT I KNOW OF , BUT WAS ABLE TO HAVE HIT AFTER HIT . SHE WAS NOT A TECHNICAL SINGER OR A " BELTER " OF SONGS - BUT I DON'T CARE . SHE HAS A TRULY BEAUTIFUL VOICE - ALTHOUGH SHE MAY NOT BE THE BEST "SINGER" IN THE WORLD COMPARED TO WHITNEY , MARIAH OR CELINE . I COULD LIVE A HUNDRED MORE YEARS AND NEVER HEAR THOSE THREE AGAIN AND STILL DIE HAPPY . I PREFER TO HEAR SOMEONE THAT SOUNDS GREAT WHILE SIMPLY SINGING - NOT SHOUTING OR MOVING ALL UP AND DOWN THE MUSICAL SCALE WITH LIGHTNING SPEED AND THE PRECISION OF A RICHTER SCALE . THAT JUST DOES NOT IMPRESS ME VERY MUCH AT ALL .

JUST THINK HOW SUCCESSFUL THOSE THREE WOULD BE WITH ALL OF THE "BELL'S AND WHISTLES GONE " .

THERE ARE THOSE FEW SINGERS WHO HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS . THE BEST EXAMPLE THAT I CAN THINK OF NOW IS CHRISTINA AGUILERA . VERY FEW WOULD ARGUE WITH THE FACT THAT SHE HAS INCREDIBLE VOCAL CONTROL BUT ALSO A NICE VOCAL TONE THAT SO MANY OTHERS ARE LACKING .

YOU MIGHT NOT AGREE WITH MY EXAMPLES HERE BUT IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DENY THAT MY BASIC POINT IS PRETTY TRUE . I HATE TO EVEN USE EXAMPLES BECAUSE MUSICAL TASTES ARE SO DIVERSE - BUT I HAVE TO , IN ORDER TO PROMOTE MY IDEA .

I SEEK TO ACHIEVE MY GREATEST ABILITY IN BOTH SEPERATE CATEGORIES BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT TO BE VERY IMPORTANT - WHETHER OTHERS REALISE IT OR NOT .

IN SPITE OF ALL OF THIS , THE BEST SINGER WITH THE BEST VOICE CANNOT SOUND GOOD WITH THE WORST SONG IN THE WORLD .

and so many people will hate me now, Britney, for example, actually does have a pretty voice but is a horrible singer.

I am with you all the way on the misunderstanding thing, and I've thought about it too for a long time, however you must remember that "simply singing" for some people is avutally belting. A friend of mine with a beautiful voice has never had any vocal training, but is able to nail songs by MC, WH, and CD easily. She can sing everything naturally. It's second nature to her.

A great example of a beautiful "voice" would be Norah Jones. A voice that I would not call beautiful would be Shakira . James Taylor did lots of "vocal acrobatics" in "How Sweet it is" but his voice is kind of wierd to me - twangy or nasal - something wierd, but a good technical singer. I hope this adds clarification to my essay on the big difference between being a good singer and having a good voice .
