DATE: November 17, 1973
The Punahou and St. Louis football teams clashed at the old Honolulu Stadium to contest the 1973 ILH championship. At stake was a trip to the inaugural 1973 Oahu Bowl to play the OIA champion Waianae Seariders for bragging rights as the best team in the state of Hawaii.
Punahou had been shut out 30-0 by St. Louis just a week earlier and with the Crusaders favored in this game by 7, Punahou had much to prove. The students of Punahou's KPUN channel (the 1970s precursor of today's Punavision program) captured the entire game with their multi-camera production truck, announcers, and graphics.
PUNAHOU: Duane Akina, Mosi Tatupu, Robert Pennybacker, Keith Uperesa, Doug Knowlton, Kelly Nakaya, Galen Kitamura, Sam Pennington, Charles Heaukulani, Bill Syme, Calford Wong, Nathan Cockett, Craig Leong, Neal Ane, James Kealoha, Verner Ah Ching, Mark Jacobson, Mark Keala, Alan Young, Jack Wright, Rowe Johnson, Wendell Ho, Kevin Velasco, Tim Marnie, Alvin Cabrinha, David Eldredge
ST. LOUIS: Steve Wilson, Ed Kini, Brian Cabral, Vincent Passas, Matsushima, Kurt Doane, Brian Hanawahine, George Ornellas, Lowell Kim, Darwin Luna, Edmund Copp, John Pekelo, Kahalawai, Wassman, Enos
wow, brings back a lot of good memories. My most precious memories of growing up in Hawai'i was going to ILH games at the old Honolulu Stadium in Moiliili.

Great footage! Brian Cabral has gone on to be a longtime Linebackers coach at the University of Colorado and is brilliant at what he does. He helped the Buffs beat U Hawaii 31-13 last year and he'll be visiting Hawaii with the Buffs next Saturday to get another victory!
