  • We were also conquered by the French... seven times. This is where a lot of our accents and regionalisms come from. We have French accentuations on British words. It is the same for Dominicans as well.

Listen to the reporter: His report's grammatical structure was in proper English; it's just his accent and regionalisms that make him sound so "boogey-ish." We must stop being so self-loathing and embrace our uniqueness as Lucians... the Trinis, Bajans and Jamaicans already do for themselves.

  • I hope you tell the Bajans and Jamaicans and Trinis that as well; because, none of us will sound like a proper Brit. And if one does sound like a Brit, you'll criticize that they're "yanking"!

  • Thank you islezeus for presenting your case, and thanks zeigy for accepting your wrongs. The minister of transportation & road works was accused of the same thing. Non the less they speak perfect english and legible to all listening.

  • Lol, it's ok, my girl or boy. I'm glad you saw the light, eventually. :-)

  • Okay. Fine! I guess I'm occasionally guilty of the same self-loathing that I no longer want to see in our people.

  • if u r fr stlucia and dont understand patois then to bad for u ignorant.

  • We can still keep our regionalisms but when we speak in an official context we need a standard language in order to teach those who seek to learn.

  • That's not good enough for me. We were conquered by the British and made to learn their language, there is a standard English Dictionary which shows you how to pronounce the words.

I don't want to see our French Creole disappear either but one must learn to master the languages he was given and some of it's intricacies so that people can see that he is serious about his education and lifelong learning.

  • @Zeigy The reporter speaks English well, it's just his regionalisms and accent that make him sound so.

  • More importantly, get the reporter to speak english better.
