Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 August, 2010 : - - San Diego -- Keeping the culture and craft of surfboard design alive and thriving: one of Sacred Craft's main goals. To that end this year Sacred Craft is bringing four younger shapers, each under 25-years-old, into the shaping bay to determine who has the mad skills. The event is titled 'Young Guns of Shaping' presented by SIMR Surfboards.
This event will be a great test, as this is no ordinary starting point. Each shaper will be given two hours to shape a surfboard out of a massive 10' 10" stringerless chunk of polyurethane foam courtesy of US Blanks. They can shape any board they want, with a catch. The finished board must be under 7' long.
One of the keys to this event will be the shapers ability to 'find' the surfboard within the massive chunk of foam, and to do so efficiently. The shapers use their own tools. The finished blanks will then be judged by legendary San Diego shaper Rusty Preisendorfer.
