This private video - made in the wake of Karachi Fashion Week 2009 - is an excellent illustration of Pakistan's deep-rooted identity crisis as a "Muslim" state in a multi-religious Subcontinent and a secular, multi-cultural globalized world. The video creator claims to be against Islamic fundamentalism whether in the form of "Mullaism" or "Talibanization" and yet rejects fashion shows as nothing less than "murder of our unique ideology and identity"! He exhorts viewers to "remember that our ideology is Islam and our identity is Pakistan", that Pakistani fashion designers "represented neither of them", and should "join any of those countries whose culture [they] are promoting here in the name of Pakistan."

PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS ON THE VIDEO BEFORE WATCHING.

  • "Our Ideology is Islam?" was it supposed to be an irony, because i didn't find a trace of it? I am thoroughly shocked.

  • Ashu, I think there has been a serious misunderstanding! I DIDN'T create the video but merely uploaded it to highlight my native Pakistan's identity crisis. I strongly disagree with the video creator's message that fashion shows are illustrative of Western decadence and and are a threat to Pakistan's "unique" Islamic identity and ideology. In my opinion, it is precisely such warped thinking that prevents Pak from fostering a tolerant domestic atmosphere and embracing globalization.

  • @KashifHKhan kashif i saw most of your videos and i liked most of them , what u r trying to say from this video that pak should enhance its soft image know ,how it could be happen i totally agree that they should promote paki fashion but whole world dont want to see that they just fade up with this islam centric attitude ,and what u think that western dont wear salwar comiz and sarri and i shock that u also agree hey guys we should be broad minded

  • and also start keeping ur precious item at public display...all the cash,, gems n jewels...keep ur homes and cars unlocked...bcoz if u think that women wearing such clothers is freedom...then u either do not realize how precious women are....or u think that displaying precious items is not a big deal....then y not display all ur precious ones...n c for urself..

  • Really really good job... n those bringing in the molvis.... molvis arent doing a good job either....but u really think bringing the women of PAKISTAN out half naked, showing them to the world would do good to them???? and then attract people to harrass them??? each 1 having such opinion must b brave enough to walk in such clothes not in just their homes and parties...but in the bazaars, on the roads,,,n everywhere in Pakistan...n then try read the eyes of the men watching u ....

  • well.... name this as "Goro Ki Ghulam Pakistani Aurtein" because we cant call them western aurtein. they r too munaafiq for that even.

  • @muhusidg shut up, molvis r the one who created this war, so wt do u want to do? put these women in their houses and treat them like shitt, pakistan fashion weeks r awesome and show the talent in our country that fags like u ignore

  • dnt go bombing these fashion shows plzz, best thing ever happened to pakistan and they only non corrupted industry

  • wtf? y r people making such a big deal outta pakistan fashion shows, there r 9 of em happenin every year, i truly love them, BIG UP TO PAKISTAN FASHION INDUSTRY, u just cant put women in ur house and beat them till death

  • Your country will be a country that could be lived in when women, dressed like these, can walk around without being attacked by the public. If you go crazy and feel a huge rush in your system pushing you to attack a women dressed like this on the street and stone her to death, you need go and get some treatment. It's not what you put on, but what you "put-in" makes you a whore.

  • kashif, wtf do u want them to do? dress up like an ordinary paki woman and hit at home and get beatings frm their husbands, grow up man, imams hav already ruined pakistan enough, u cant just expect a nation to shut up and sit at their homes, anyways, pakistan is doing AWESOME!!!! in fashion, i hope fashion industry grows at rapid pace,
