I was tipped off by Andy (HighIronofWisconsin) that there were these two GBW boxcars on an old spur off Hinkle Street. So yesterday I decided to go and check them out. The first thing that caught me by surprise was that the spur isn't connected to the main line anymore and that the original doors have been replaced for storage needs. It seems that these boxcars will be here for a while more since if they need to removed, they're going to need to be scrapped on the spot or have a crane lift them out. After we left here, we then went to the NGB yard to check things out. As we made our way to the yard we caught the Pulliam Power Plant's BNSF power bringing in coal. Somewhat towards the end of the yard is where we found the GBW snow plow. Does anyone have any info about it? It looks to be quite old.

  • I see them GBW boxcars you have at the beginning of your video, they are now gone from that spot....I wonder where they went, my guess is they got scrapped :* - (

  • @JeremiahTrane Yeah it's a shame, a few months ago they went up for sale on an online auction website. I'm sure someone picked them up for cheap and scrapped them out.

  • Nice boxcars! Thanx fur sharin'!

  • No problem!

  • Great video...If your ever around the Green Bay area again...Let me know....I'll tag along with ya and we can scope out some more GBW stuff...Take a look at some of the remains of the GBW

  • Yea! That would be cool. I wonder how much old iron is out there. :) I live just off webster street in Allouez, so yea. I'm kind of a youngster, (16) but I'm really getting into railfanning. I think it's one of the funnest hobbies I have.

  • If I remember right from a post on the GBW group on Yahoo I think X190 is out of commission, but not sure where it's stored.

  • I found one GBW almost the same way. In an industrial Park in Addison Illinois, boxcar # 4396. It also was on a piece of track that was disconnected from the spur (IC/CN Blue Island to Dubuque). I drove by it to work every day for years. Then suddenly it was gone. I think the railroad put down a temp track and yanked it out.

  • Yep, I remember that day.

  • They use this plow not only for snow...They also use it to push ballast around now as well
