This poetry is a fable or tale. It's not exactly what happened, but there is allot of truths in it. So if you want to enjoy the story, you must listen to it with an open mind. If you know the Bible well, you will have no problem enjoying it. And remember that this is widely accepted by many poets as the greatest poetry of the English language. The author, John Milton is justifying "the ways of God to man".
