In some way it feels like everything about New York City has been said. In some way, I feel like a phony trying to write these words about how these two weeks there affected me, how like always, it changed me, challenged me, opened my eyes....In some ways I miss it already, like I miss the complicated warmth of passed love. In some ways this trip, which included two shows, The Hamptons, boating the sea as the sun set around us, as the music blared and the wind caused my eyes to tear. NY showed me a broadway show, a walk down half the islands waterfront, late night walks getting lost in the sensible chaos of the city, friends, so many new and old. I saw the apartments of those beginning and those who have "made" it...from the top of the movie star's building on the park, to the top of the walkup brownstone of my Boston buddies. From the subway in Brooklyn at One a.m. to the speeding taxi on the FDR. We danced, sang in the streets, sat under candlelight discussing politics (VOTE!!), all of it....everything one would expect New York to offer.

I tried to film some of it. I tried to capture even a piece of what surprises I encountered at every corner.

I am amazed at what music has brought me. Even today as I sleep on my best friends couch, getting ready to sneak over to my piano sitting in another friend's house to work for the day, not knowing what tomorrow will bring, or even more, WHO I will be tomorrow, even then, I wonder.....I wonder what is real...I wonder if the ache will ever truly leave me, or if this is simply what it is to be human. I wonder if everyone feels all I feel beneath the surface, like a running river imbedded within, creating a humming contant of conflicting emotions that drive us to do more than survive.

New York was an escape. New York was work. New York was tiring and inspiring. New York let me sing with Bonnie on the stage as well as in the sun by the river. New York allows you to be you, allows you to get lost if you like, or sometimes if you are lucky....you find something that sticks with you and pushes you to GO, even in your doubt...for you may never run.....

Ok, writing this before my coffee may have been a mistake....let the video speak for itself....I warn you, it is nearly 10 minutes long, so clear the calendar. It is funny, has performance, artists doing their things.....well, I like it at least...and my Mom says I'm cool.

Peace, be you, Jake
