Las Vegans with disabilities are underserved by the cabs weve got now. All too often, the wait has been too long, the drivers unaware of the needs of their passengers, or the cabs themselves have been poorly equipped.

Handicab brings a new way of doing taxicab business here to Clark County. Handicabs goal is to provide courteous, dependable, and affordable transportation to handicapped residents and visitors and to the general public.

The existing taxicab companies oppose Handicabs application for a taxi license and say they already meet the needs of handicapped residents and visitors. Handicab disagrees. There is a real need, and there is a better way to meet that need.

Help Handicab show the Nevada Taxicab Authority that the current taxi system is not working for handicapped riders.

  • shut the fuck up!!!!! ive been in a wheelchair for almost twenty years buy a car put some hand controls on it and drive yourself you lazy bastards!!!!!

  • being in a wheelchair isn't the only disability ther is...and plus, if you needed to take a taxi, would you expect good service?

  • well, don't any of them have a friend to give them a ride?

  • not all friends have the equipment...or are available at the time when they need a ride....would that same question be asked to any other citizen?

  • The taxi industry is too busy cannibalizing itself to help others. Drivers are put under extreme amounts of pressure to bring in an impossible amount of revenue. The companies and the taxi authority are doing such a poor job in their respective capacities that this will be no easy fix. First, how will your company pay it's drivers? How will you prevent your drivers from being unavailable because they are staging at the airport? Are the disabled being used here to justify another greedy co.?

  • Christ, I thought I had problems but now I feel grateful I've still got the powers of both legs and can walk home from anywhere in my city!

  • what comes around goes around, karma is a bitch it cant be escaped, everyone gets theres in the end. a seperate company will present itself eventually.

  • Invaluable information for anyone contemplating a trip to Vegas (which I WAS doing). I've had the same experiences as the people in this video in many cities. The ADA does not require taxis be wheelchair accessible but regards Para Transit as "equivalent" which it isn't. Even in those cities where medallions for wheelchair accessible taxis are less expensive, there is no one to assure the driver picks up people in chairs. It's faster to pick up an able-bodied person. No ramp, no tie downs.

  • No, he yelled at her BEFORE I pushed her chair up the ramp. He yelled at her when he first came to pick us up. He wanted her to transfer into the front passenger seat, which is absolutely impossible for her to do in a van. She can only weight bear and isn't able to climb up. This driver was most DEFINITELY in the wrong. If he's driving a wheelchair van and she's in a wheelchair, then he's in the wrong. The cab company fully agreed with us too.

  • First of all, I should tell you that we don't live in the US. We live in Canada and don't have limos available for wheelchairs.

  • make friends with one driver and then call him. if no driver gives you the number because not making money with ride or your mean to cab drivers

  • yes he can get if lady does he can get it trouble that is why he yell at you.

  • there also limos you can use they do wheelchair. i see cat bus go to people house. Also remember the cab driver only about 35% of the meter. they also pay for own gas. you need also to remember there is alot money on the strip. on busy like friday or saturday cab driver would lose money if he goes off the strip. Unless it's big fare it's not worth it.

we also have family and kids we need to support. it not fun to do rides you lose money on .

  • Excuse me, but not everyone with a disability is able to drive. My sister uses a wheelchair and we frequently use taxis to get around.

  • I'm not blaming you, but if that's the case then your city needs more handicap vans. It's very difficult for someone to have to wait that long for a ride. Disabled people have lives too.
