POSTVILLE, IA -- A North Iowa community is dealing with its latest crisis and this time it has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
A fire did serious damage to an apartment building and a business below in downtown Postville Saturday morning.
The fire started around 10:30 a.m. at the Postville Bakery and Restaurant.
Fire departments from 10 surrounding communities responded and battled the blaze for several
hours.
Witnesses, including Mark Looney, who's the manager of Moore's Foods, said the downtown area was full of smoke.
The fire chief is suggesting the cause could be a stove fire in one of the apartments.
No one is hurt and the Red Cross is helping to find a place to stay for the nearly 20 people who lived upstairs.
Postville has about 2,300 people and was the scene of a historically large immigration raid in the spring of 2008 at the former Agriprocessors plant which crippled a big source of jobs and income in the community.
