  • I guess dogs arent allowed to pull sleds anymore

  • Yes, there is dog weight pulls with sleds, but you will find none on the east coast where it is warm year round. UKC and IWPA offer sled pulls still.

  • I agree with you and I never push her past what I think she can do. I realize her body is not built for this activity, but I want to show folks that every dog can do weight pull (to some extent) and to promote folks to do more with their canines other than pamper them.

  • This may not qualify as dog abuse, but it is certainly close. Brussels Griffons are wonderful little dogs... the best breed in the world in my opinion. They will do anything to please their owner, even something unnatural like pulling a weighted sled - a strenuous activity for which they are NOT physically suited.

  • I see your point of view. I am not your typical dog/pet owner either. I actually do things with my dogs other than let them lie around to be pampered. Every dog needs a job to do otherwise what purpose do they feel they are helping with?

  • Wieght pulling, carting and mushing/scootering can be done by any type of (healthy) dog. With positive reinforcement, it becomes a fun game (and good exercise), a way to harness that couch-chewing energy! They run and pull because they want to , not because they're made to. it's not Call of the Wild anymore! Learn with reputable trainers, and never push your dog beyond what he/she is comfortable with.

  • there rat hunters not workers they are hunters completely different breeds should not be doing this

  • Aren't the 400 lbs supposed to be in the cart, not out of the cart clapping and talking?

  • I personnally think weight pulling is one of the best forms of exercise a dog of almost any breed can get. A responsible owner knows the limit of his/her dog. Right now I am training with one of my two Mini Schnauzers and he absolutely loves it! He knows we are there to work. And we literally only train a max of 10min. Once I get him conditioned I plan on training my other mini. So again, I love this form of exercise! Its a great way to bond with your dog and keep the it in a healthy condition.

  • You idiots need to shutup. Is it cruel for a person lift weights. That 400 lbs is very easy to move. You could literall throw a ball at the cart an move it. The dog is not being forced to pull it wants to. Never seen a dog try to be abused.

  • Well, I agree with you on giving them something to do Agiledog22, but there is a huge difference in giving them a healthy task to complete, or a small job such as carrying a small amount of weight in a dog backpack during a walk, and making them pull 400lbs on a sled. These small types of dogs are just NOT suited for this.
