Demonstrates how to rollback Minecraft to different versions using the Digiex Launcher found at ...

http://digiex.net/minecraft/mcvtool/

This is useful if you update to current version of MC for single-player, but need the ability to flip back to a previous version to play on a multi-player server. The Digiex launcher provides a repository of old versions you can download. Then, in the launcher screen, you just pick the .jar/version to use when launching that session. You can easily flip between versions by simply closing the game down and selecting a different .jar/version to launch. There are a few concessions, like your achievements resetting, but that's a minor gripe for the flexibility this tool provides.

It's important to note that technically it's illegal for anyone to distribute minecraft .jar files except for Mojang. However, these are not hacked/cracked .jar files; you still need a valid license/login to play the game. Thus, I don't consider it breaking the law. You, the customer, could maintain old copies of the game if you wanted. But, instead, you dipping into another person's online repo to get them. They're unaltered versions of the previous jars.

This is something Notch & Mojang should have incorporated into their launcher a long time ago, especially knowing some folks play multiple servers, and those servers could each be running different versions of MC. As the end-user, you get shut out of certain servers by merely upgrading. So, this 3rd party tool provides the flexibility to overcome that.

  • lol ... gig, it's me tundro, aka therandomdot. This was an unscripted documentation of the tool, b/c I couldn't find anything on youtube for it, and folks don't like to read directions.
