  • @DarkAngelsForever Yes, I took a lot of trouble writing an aphosristic essay on Fonteyntrying my best. to capturing the esssence of her dancing personality. I once sent it to David Leaonard for his magazine - he used to have a shop called Dance books near Charing Cross RD. He is very, very stiff English upper lip and refused my essay as it was 'too personal." Ohers disagree. If you would like a copy of it my e-mail address is felixdevilliers21@gmail.com. You don't have to like it!!!

  • @felixdevilliers1 Thank you for saying this, you're absolutely right, in my opinion! There are technically brilliant dancers today who do not have the soul Margot Fonteyn had when she was dancing.

  • Fonteyn had to be technically brilliant to keep up with Nureyev ! It's rubbish to suggest otherwise. They were an incredible pairing.

  • Who the hell thinks of technical brilliance - such a clichè, one of thos things one says - when seeing pure poetry. But she, English trained, had a small scale technique which even Makarova says she found it hard sometimes to emulate.Makarova wass thinking of expression, not technique when she referred to Fonteyn as legendary in the Sleeping Beauty. Thereis something that comes from within which no one can emulate.

  • she was lovely although not technically brilliant. He was both.
