I agree with you on that. But I have a stainless steel grill that is outdoors, so I would have to clean it often to keep the effects of weather at bay.
I use Bar Keepers Friend for heavy duty clean up.

Don't use WD40 as it is toxic and made from petroleum. You could get this into your food and swallow it. A lot of people are allergic to petroleum and can have an allergic reaction. Why use WD40 when it works out cheaper to buy the real thing taking corveage into account..

@orlandofriend it's not about something hard to clean other wise you should use quickleen-s and not of let you appliance got so bad in the first place! Instead it's about cleaning and polishing appliances with little effort with lasting results and you never have to clean something hard.
prevention is better than cure. a stich in time save nine stiches. etc
