sad to see that such great african civilizations fell because of fucking europeans... and now everyone thinks that african culture is limited with "ooga-booga" dances and rap.

@mihanich Great Zimbabwe fell before European contact. In the 1400s, when it fell only the Portuguese had reached Africa but that was Mocambique which is far from this site.

@mihanich Every country in the world would have invaded, colonized the other given half the chance just see the Carthaginians. Europeans just did it better back then. If the African nations did it better you would have been angry at them I guess :)

@AnonymousElektron This video shows you ancient zimbabwe you dumbass .

@sn00piedog Rhodesia was NOTHING before Europeans.
It was unclaimed and unused.
Of course, we're now seeing how well they can run a country, with Mugabe's Kafkaesque economic policies, and his hating on "bookish economists", and his plan to make the country rich by printing more money.

@mihanich Rhodesia had the population density of Mongolia before Europeans civilized it.
The few native tribes that were there couldn't deal with Malaria, so were never able to settle much of that land.
Not just was 99% of that land unused an untouched, but it was also unclaimed, and the morons who imperialized and colonized Rhodesia had no right to do so.

I just want to say that "Great Zimbabwe" is not the only building in sub-Saharan Africa, not even the biggest. There are many historical constructions in Africa that are older and larger than "The Great Zimbabwe", such as the pyramids of Nubia and Timbuktu city.

@exupipus haha yes well, it may look that way - but great zimbabwe is also small and miserable and less than a third of the age. There are some great civilizations in meso america without a doubt - cant take that away from you and I hope to be able to some at least some of them one day.
I just visited Great Zim. It was amazing and I'm now surprised that more people do not know about it.

This is exactly what I thought when I saw it, especially very few black people know about this testimonial of great Black African history.
But I am also surprised you managed to get there in this period of turmoil for Zimbabwe!
