God bless Jim Henson and the folks at the Childrens Television Workshop. Sesame Street was the first and only children's show to feature minority characters such as Gordon, José , and Maria and with many world musicians such as Celia, Tito Puente and José Feliciano to appear during it's run, children in America were exposed to the beauty of world music and foreign culture and traditions.
Actually I think it doesn't represent a country in particular, they have elements from different countries. Like the fruit hat (Brazil), Gaucho Hats(argentinian cowboys), and I even believe that the hat with stray straws is a Marielito hat from Cuba (but maybe also from panamá, not sure), the're also animals from Peru, The Andes etc...
I'm impressed with this clip. More so than I am with most other post-Jim Henson Muppet segments. It has a true South American feel to it, and Louise Gold has a nice accent. Jim would be proud.
I wonder in what country this is meant to be set. Probably Argentina or Venezuela.

Very observant. And a good point too. I only asked because South America is the one continent all of whose countries I've memorized.
Just for the record, though, Panama and Cuba aren't in South America.

I always hated it when the TV station went on stand by because something went wrong while Sesame Street was on.
