Done as a multi-track recording ala Les Paul or Dan Fogelberg, I used a Gibson J50 acoustic guitar, Hohner polyphonic harmonica and backup vocals to add layers to the selection. Based on Robert Heinlein's short story "The Green Hills of Earth", I changed the lyrics to a more upbeat motif. With a strange kind of 3/4 waltz beat, I don't think this will be performed on "Dancing With The Stars".

  • Subtitles! Subtitles, my kingdom for subtitles! In other words, where can I find these lyrics? Great song!

  • @NJEsperantist Thanks for the nice accolade, NJE. The lyrics for Rhysling's last space ballad are included in Robert Heinlein's short story, "The Green Hills of Earth".

  • this is great thank you. If you all havent heard the radio drama of "the green hills of earth" i sugest looking it up. X Minus One broadcast in 55

  • @rtscaptain Thanks yourself, Brandon. "Dimension X" also broadcast a radio adaptation of "The Green Hills of Earth'" in the early 50's. My other video among my entries is "The Green Hills of Earth More Distant...Part 2" (a more downbeat version), with Heinlein's original verses if you wish to hear it. Again, always great to hear nice words about one's musical ventures. Cordially, John

  • Hi John,

I like this a lot my friend!!! You did a great job performing this song!

Very appropriate images to enhance our listening, and visual

experience!!! If the "Harlem Globe Trotters" ever lose the recording

of "Sweet Georgia Brown" with "Elmo Tanner" whistling...you could surely make up the difference!!! ;o) "Thumbs Up...Way Up!"

    Best Regards Always John,

    Dwayne

  • @ilovetrains63 Thanks so much, my Signal Oil compadre (yes, t'was "The Whistler"'s primary sponsor). And, for all who happen to read this response, I would like to refer you to Dwayne's great YouTube musical site (as noted above: "lovetrain63). He is truly an artisan of our country's best pop and legacy music, as well as a very gifted composer and performer. Hope you don't mind the plug, good friend. Cordially, John
