  • lol of course it's real, that's what a trombone sounds like when it's played up that high. It's not an impossible note and Brett Baker is more than capable of playing it.

  • This guy is a very good player, but it seems like he sacrificing a bit of his musicianship by being a little too proud of his range... He is a great player, but this performance could have been more musical if he had made more of a difference between articulation in the legato passages and brought out the melodic line in the fast sections....

Gotta love the knockers. Anyone who thinks this isn't great is a chump! I've had the pleasure of playing in a section with him too and +1 to all the compliments. Not a bad bloke either. A couple of things to remember - 1. Live performance. 2. Crapola recording. 3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he still has a DAY JOB! Far out. Anyone who craps on this performance needs to get out more.

  • For an interesting comparision, try the young Glenn Dodson playing this as soloist with the US Marine Band, probably mid-1950s. Glenn went on to asst. principal with Chicago, then completed his career as Phila Orch principal (27 yrs) and as prof. at Curtis, (students included Joe Alessi, many others). Extraordinary musician, and man.

You can find an .mp3 on the web. I can't seem to post it here.

  • AS USUAL BRILLIANT!A BRILLIANT PLAYER>

  • Brett has all the tools, but he need to practice this piece more, get the articulation of the fast parts precisely, and quit the gratuitous showing off with the ad lib high notes.

This is a murderously difficult piece to play properly. Everyone (except Pryor) I've heard play it butchers it in some way. If you want to here it performed perfectly listen to the original recorded by himself, March 13, 1911 on Crystal Records CD451.

  • totally Brilliant!!!!!!!!.

  • Anyone Jealous that my Symphonic Ochestra is going to be accompanying Brett Baker for the World Premier of his new Trombone Concerto...I thought not!

  • Brett Baker is coming to do a concert with Brass Wanganui in New Zealand on 15th of Nov. Looking forward to being involved with such a virtuoso player

  • @janwillemtromp1

Whenever you post a video of you playing anything as hard anywhere close to as good as how Mr. Brett Baker played, then you can critisize as roughly as you did. Yes, he missed a few notes because he tried to show off but his performance was virtuosic. It is okay to critisize, but not to totally sh*t all over his playing. He is one of the best trombonists in the world and the Black Dyke Mills Band one of the best if not the best brass band in the world.

  • @janwillemtromp1 I'd love to see you do better
