@belugafishgod I'm a bitter bigoted idiot? I think you're experiencing a little projection there dude. I don't have a religion. I use science because it works, and I like getting results rather than self delusion.
For my "soul" - I listen to music, socialize with friends, or just get out and about with people. Sometimes I watch sunsets. I do lots for my soul, thank you very much.

@Thewho124 Yes, and anyone who wasn't a catholic was burned at the stake as a witch or a heretic.
What's your point?

@OccamKant you don't like the facts to bad

@ofomatheblackbelt No, you need not go on. Your examples are a joke, and mean nothing. Luke 17:34-36 isn't even what you said it was. And job 38:19 is not about light travelling in a path, but living somewhere. LOL
How about Job 36:29? We have meteorology now, we understand how the clouds are "spread out". And god is NOT part of the hydrological cycle.
No matter how you try to twist it, the bible is ridiculous and the opposite of factual and accurate.

@OccamKant what can we learn from the bible
The stars are too great in number to count:Genesis 15:5
The Earth is shaped like a sphere (round) and rotates Isaiah 40:22
Luke 17:34-36
Light travels in a path, darkness does not Job 38:19 Depression can
be harmful to your
physical health Proverbs 17-22 Hydrological cycle Job 36:27-28
Amos 9:6

The Bible was written by man. Science is the truth!!!!!

The difference between religion and science is that science works.

Religion will disappear from this planet in 2 more centuries, the new generations of the world will make more use of the brains and common sense than some people at the present time, the new generations will learn that religions evolved from myths, tattle tales*, superstitions, if our universe has millions of years of existance, human beings will be able to wait around 200 years. * some tattle tales: Adan and Eve, original sin, some ghosts watching us from the sky, the rainbow etc etc etc etc

Science wins.Science is what saved people's lives, religion is what killed lots of innocent people.Science has proven how we all came to be,religion just says a guy came out of no where and some how created life without sexual intercourse of any kind.

Religion was a rough guide to controlling people before law. Law is often in support of religion, how many people are put in AA? AA is a cult. Interesting, oh and the fruit of the tree of knowledge was supposed to be a pomegranate, there were no apples in the middle east at that time. Religion pushes easy answers, simple people like easy answers because they don't have to think.

I do agree with you that god is probably BS
but your argument about Copernicus and Galileo demonstrated that you are not well informed about history.
They were banned due to political reason, not really religious reason.
This kind of thing mainly happened after the Condemnation of 1277 and the Council of Trent as an effort of Counter-Reformation.
The Church supported scientific development, examples can be drawn from Charlemagne, the Gregorian Calender, the Jesuits, ...... more and more
but theres so many ways in which we hurt other people and ourselves just with having bad desires.we hurt ourselves in so many ways. all the religious laws are there to try to adress these parts of our damaged humanity and pick us up out of vice and help us learn to control ourselves by teaching lessons that we can internalize to a point of self discipline. religion helps people internalize self discipline with metaphors that become rituals and symbols and are a benefit when PROPERLY diseminated.

@captainhellenic You can't hurt someone else with a bad desire. Until you act on the desire, the other person is not hurt.
The idea of "thoughtcrime" is a horrible one. We don't, and should never, judge someone on their thoughts, only on their actions. You can't control your thoughts, and your thoughts hurt no one, so trying to police them would bring on a nightmarish state.
"Thou shall not work on the sabbath" & "Thou shall have no other god but me" are selfish to god, not helpful for us.

i think it terribly contradictory to say that rules are bad because they restrict freedom then say something like we cant have total freedom because its not good. self discipline is nothing more than setting rules for yourself. either way your saying rules are necessary...and if they are necessary they must be good. and if what your calling freedom is bad when carreid out it must be bad. what im saying is that true freedom is freedom from both vice and opression right down to baser desires.

@captainhellenic You need rules, or morals, if you have a society. You don't need any rules if you're off by yourself and there is no one around.
My moral philosophy could be boiled down to one simple statement:
You can do anything you want, as long as you don't harm, or threaten harm, to anyone else or their property.
That's my one commandment, and if people lived by that rather than the trash in the bible (which promotes slavery, domestic abuse, homophobia, etc), then we'd all be happier.
