Hmmm of all the possble choices in the b Minor Mass the Osanna is my least favourite. If you'd offered the confiteor I might have been in agreement...
Of all the keyboard works composed by Bach, I believe the Goldberg Variations are the closest to the spirit of romanticism and this is especially felt when they are played on the piano. This makes Bach a kind of precursor in a surprising way. I enjoyed the Glenn Gould version so much that I decided to learn them as a hobby beside my physics studies. Now I've almost learned the third of the work and I find it to be the most satisfying thing I've ever played.
The Goldberg Variations were for keyboard. In the majority of cases they would have been played on the harpsichord as that was at the time the ubiquitous keyboard instrument, but it was certainly not for piano. However, over 90% of the recording you hear of that are, quite annoyingly, played on the ****ing piano!
