Newbuild A1 60163 Tornado undertook its 1st northbound run over Shap with "The Border Raider" , from Crewe to Carlisle and return via the Settle-Carlisle line and Balckburn.
The loco is seen climbing effortlessly towards Shap -- and with little exhaust and the safety valves feathering I struggled to pan from Greenholme.
On the return the train was about 50 mins late at Kirkby Stephen -- apparently there had been problems watering at Carlisle (thus losing its path) and an unsheduled stop was made at Appleby for a top up.

  • Majestic locomotive, Mike. Bravo for two superb shots. Thanks.

  • @PhilbruProduction Merci beaucoup Philippe. Malheureusement Tornado a depuis été à nouveau échoué avec des séjours chaudière cassée, laisse ainsi espérer que ce n'est pas long avant que cette belle machine est à nouveau sur la canalisation principale. Mike

  • Shap Bank? What Bank? 60163 continues to impress. Great video and filming.

  • @hurleyfunbags many thanks for your comments. Tornado and crew certainly seemed to have plenty in reserve. Mike

  • That was a cracking video, Mike. As to the panning; mine are not as good as that when I can see the engine. Yours was hidden behind a hill so I thought you did brilliantly. ★★★★★- Frank.

  • @TheDoodyman many thanks Frank, you're too kind. Having been to that spot before its been fairly easy to follow locos as there's normally plenty of exhaust; but not this time. regards Mike

  • @robmasterman thanks Bob. You get the feeling there's always plenty in reserve. I'd like to see the loco over Shap again with a heavier loading and in more typical northern weather.

  • Two excellent shots Mike, what a performer this loco is...brilliant stuff...Bob

  • @SPINNER673 many thanks. I wonder if we'd have seen an even better performance up Shap if there hadn't been a lineside fire risk.

  • @EMuksteam many thanks. nice to get a whistle as well
