Indulgences were used to fund the military response to the then infidel invasion; today we have unpopular universal taxesto do the same. In order to fund our "free" net we now need content (information) to support the advert tax.
Data is free, now so is comment, insight is the internet benefit of collaborative likes (and views) -the benefit is that service quality will improve as the surly and mean-spirited corporations are publically exposed
