Afghanistan is the world's largest opium supplier, responsible for more than 90 per cent of the heroin sold worldwide.

And much of the proceeds have allegedly helped fund the Taliban fight against Nato troops, prompting a policy of eradicating poppy fields throughout the country.

But the destruction of poppy fields appears to be playing into Taliban hands as well.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel Hamid reports from Kabul.
