Filmed, produced, written and presented by Allan Dow of ILO Bangkok, this mini-documentary examines the risks to young migrants - both foreign and Thai - of human trafficking inside Thailand. Within the context of a human rights-based approach, and with first-hand testimonials, this video explores the fine line between discrimination and maltreatment and the outright exploitation and sometimes violence experienced by foreign migrant workers exposed to human trafficking in Thailand today. Impervious attitudes of some Thai employers and the general public toward migrants further complicate efforts to build a more harmonious relationship between this large workforce, the authorities, employers and the public. However some good practices to bridge the gaps have been identified and there are some encouraging signs that with the right commitments everyone can benefit from foreign migrant workers in Thailand, and the threat and instances of trafficking can be reduced. Advances are illustrated both upstream at policy level and downstream at community level. Credit and appreciation extended to Thai TV 11 for their approved use of archival materials.
