For hi qual version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHjZUXdwYEI&fmt=18 Here's how we achieve one-pull snow blower starting. Bought a model with an engine that has a primer button. Kept the machine in a heated garage. Comfortably checked oil and tire pressure there. Uneven tire pressure can cause the machine to pull to one side. We do NOT start it there. Now its time to get ugly. We wear old clothes. Put in ear plugs. Roll it out into the cold cruel world and close the door. ALWAYS store the gas outside. Yes it is be cold - that is why the primer button is needed. We fill the gas tank before opening the gas tap below the tank. The gas acts as lubrication for the seats/seals on the tap. We make sure the gas tank is venting properly to prevent suction lock. This one needs a notched washer under the cap. Then we urn the ignition switch to on, place the throttle lever to top speed, set the choke lever to full choke, and press the primer button 2-4 times. Usuall hear a slight gurgle of gas, but sometimes it takes a few minutes for gas to percolate fully into the fuel system. Then we sllowly on the manual recoil starter handle to take out the slack and turn the engine over to the compression stroke. The resistance increases as it gets there. We let the recoil started gather in the cord and then pull it quickly. Upon the engine starting, we quickly open the choke and bring back the throttle to a fast idle. We then it run for at least 10 minutes before commencing operation (another coming video on that). This 13 HP unit has electric start. Never needed to use it. Over and out.

  • Mid-winter at 5 degrees F the primer & choke come in handy...

  • 16" impeller is the largest you can get on a walk behind machine AFAIK - the biggest Ariens & Troy-Bilt use it -- as well as the now extinct Gravely. Wish the mfg''s would hook up a 20HP B&S Vanguard to a 20+ impeller. I could use all that power and more...

    Why did you pull the pull cord once slowly (No enough to even start) then right after give it a good solid pull?

    Are you trying to get fuel and air into the motor before starting?

  • I just pull the cord slowly to get it up on the compression stroke-- extra resistance you can feel. No need to pull through to pre-fuel --it has a primer bulb to do that.

  • Is this the 45" 13 HP "4 wheel" (tire) machine?

  • 13 HP 33" 2 tire 16" impeller...does a great job of throwing snow, slush blobs, ice chunks, and small mammals...

  • Snow blowers really were meant to start cold. Just got a brand new one never run before (except MAYBE once as a test in the factory quick) and it started on the first pussy pull. It was like pulling a rubberband and it started right up without hesitation, and it didn't need choke at all. Damn.

  • 16" impeller is a pretty good sized impeller. My little 1984 24" Ariens only has a 10", and I thought I did good with a 12" impeller on my new 22" Ariens, lol.

    The new machines definitely have a lot of nice design improvements over the old machines, or I would have just fixed my old 1984 model.
