Literally taking a "hands-on" approach to painting, Dena has created bold, colorful pieces that evoke a range of the most heartfelt human emotions. Drawing inspiration from family and community, she has been painting acrylic on canvas with traditional techniques for several decades. In recent years, however, Dena found she relied on her brushes less and less, and soon abandoned them completely to embrace her calling, which she whimsically refers to as "paint sculpting". Today, all of her acrylic pieces are created completely through a variety of methods she has perfected in finger painting.
