This is a work-in-progress sample clip for "Be Strong, Be Gentle, Be Beautiful." Please help us finish the film, to make a contribution please go to the website. Keiko Fukuda's destiny was set two generations before her birth, during the final days of the samurai era. In 1934, at 21 years of age, Keiko Fukuda embarked on a long journey with judo as her vehicle. This path meant giving up marriage, family, and her Japanese citizenship. She has endured war, discrimination, and crossed oceans, to become the only woman to attain 10th degree black belt. She is the last living student of judo's founder, Kano. Today at 98, she still teaches judo three times a week, and through her gentle soul she exudes wisdom and inspiration to all. "Be Strong, Be Gentle, Be Beautiful," is an hour-long documentary film about Keiko Fukudas inspirational journey. The film will be released early in 2012.

  • Great film. Great woman.

  • This woman... Epic strength for what she has overcame in those years.. She is simply a GREAT role model for never giving up on anything. She achieved her result in what? probably like 70 years of judo training... I'm not a judo wrestler or anything like that, I jumped on this video randomly and I feel surprised for how this lady has the power of her mind, soul and body. Great, absolutely GREAT, lesson to remind over here, NEVER BACK DOWN

  • having reach 10th degree put her in a league of her own ;D, even though she is weak now, she can still teach. im glad that there are still teachers with knowledge from the old times. i hope she can pass all her wisdom to another person so they can keep the art alive forever~

  • @Cyberia24 Having a tough time in gym class kiddo?

  • @ChefJezzaSTL Offensive breath maybe.

  • @Cyberia24 What are you babbling about? You want to be an assassin or something?

  • @thecyberpunk "Martial arts is a joke, it's the only "sport" where you can be awarded for no competitive ability at all..." LMFAO. You are seriously a few notches above the threshold of being a legal vegetable aren't you?

  • @thecyberpunk Uh, all this is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what you THINK martial arts is - it's the fact that has excelled in the field and has been treated unfairly because of gender and tradition. The "astute" observation that you make of this woman, at 98-years-old, not being able to manhandle younger, more physically fit people does not invalidate the achievements that she SHOULD have been recognized for EARLIER.

  • @thecyberpunk 2. Going by your logic, since I can hire an assassin to kill a competent fighter, I should be able to get a compentent ranking in the martial art that said fighter specializes in.

  • @thecyberpunk 1. The belt was SUPPOSED to be given to her when she was younger, as explained in the video, but she was rejected multiple times simply on the basis of being a woman. So no, they are not awarding this because she's old, but that she deserves recognition for the times in which she was snubbed.

  • definitely, this storie made me cry, all the human been in this world its more important than be a man or woman; it doesnt matter if you are a man or a woman, the most important thing is the wisdom, what man has the wisdom of this beautiful woman, who give the life for his students? Keiko Fukuda O-SENSEI, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE THIS TITLE... O-SENSEI, GOD AND BUDA BLESS YOU!!! I HOPE TO MEET YOU ONE DAY!!!
