@MePotatoe92 hey. nope I never got that program to work. it was my dad's computer, and he ended up using a boot cd called "Ultimate Boot CD (for Windows)" that worked. that cd has a built-in tool for resetting passwords too.

this is the best password crack tutorial I've found so far. very easy to follow and not drawn out in the slightest. Thanks

@ThreeWalledBox: Nope problem. But I think there are some versions of Windows 7 that this doesn't work on. But, it still works on most computers I've tried.

How to add arguments , ie. chntpw -u "username" sam -1 -y ,and is that posible?
Sorry for bad english :) .

@2dulle: I once wrote a script that automated it. I believe I redirected the info doing something like this:
chntpw -u "username" sam << EOF
1
y
EOF

When I do all the steps that you say I still can not boot into windows. I did everything correct. But windows still asks for a password. HELP!

@MePotatoe92: I don't think I'll be able to help you. It should work. If it doesn't, it should give you an error message of some kind. As I said to some one in a comment below. I've only had a problem with chntpw once before and that was due to the personal having an optional extra layer of encryption on the SAM file. I guess this is a feature that win7 offers, but chntpw should still work. There are just a few extra steps needed.
