I think most are missing the point of the song. mc chris thinks weed is good but he fears being addicted to it like other drugs, if you listen to the last chorus he's almost sad about weed always being around.

To laogrith| mc sings about weed and he enjoys the most because it's like a part of him. he's done the harder drugs but he just loves weed because it, in a manner, gets him through his problems. he also doesn't say he's addicted just he doesn't want a kid to grow up around it. you need to listen to the words better or read them.

You don't go around with high school drama your whole life, i.e. "teen years are about gettin' beat down, but your 20's are about smokin' them pounds". He's saying that now when he doesn't have responsibilities that would conflict with smokin' is the time to smoke but later, like when he as children he's going to stop because at that point it's not just about him anymore. Just my take.

Personally I think for anyone to assume they know exactly what someone is writing about when they write a song is a little pompous, but for the sake of argument my take rolls something like this. The man is essentially a pot advocate but is smart enough to know there is a time in a person's life for certain things.
