Although Tucker, formerly a professional cantor at the Brooklyn Jewish Center in NYC, remained devout in the Jewish faith throughout his life, he did record a few Christian pieces during his career. This is a recording from 1967 (or 68?), singing the Lord's Prayer. One of the best renditions I've ever heard.

The lyrics for this piece are taken directly from the King James version of the New Testament, book of Matthew, chapter 6, verses 9-13 (Matthew 6:9--13). "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Another version of this prayer appears in the book of Luke, chapter 11, verses 2-4 (Luke 11:2--4). "And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."

The former version is more widely known than the latter. Enjoy this wonderful rendition.

  • Whoever disliked this does not believe in God.

  • @my55sunliner Thank You.I'm very partial to Lanza in anything that is sung in English.I remember listening to him on the radio while my mother was ironing.Tucker was a terrific tenor and I really enjoy his TV appearances here on You Tube. They bring forth his personality. I only recently developed a better appreciation for Tucker and I'm grateful for that.Too often we champion our favorites and perhaps don't take time to appreciate other great tenors that are available to us.Enjoy

  • @sugarbist AMEN!!!

  • That was Phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Mario Lanza, I love Pavarotti, this is phenomenallly gorgeous!!! Thanks for posting. me

  • I do like this a lot. A beautiful clear voice.

  • @mommacat55 : He does not sound bored he sounds serious which is far, far different. Tucke was a very religious man, a Chazzan and he approaches the song like the deeply devout man he was.

  • No he sounds sincere here, not bored at all. He is not singing as an ego loaded tenor but the way This should be sung ..

  • He sounds bored singing this. Sorry, not my favorite renditon of the Lord's Prayer. Mommacat

  • @IlgruppoDiDocci Too old? This is a hymn not a love song and a great tenor is a great tenor and Tucker was certainly a great tenor and in passing was I'm sure more religious than Lanza who's life was full of insane self indulgence. Tucker's English diction is beyond reproach.

  • beautiful ! he is my favorite for ever !
