Took this a few weeks ago, just got around to posting it. This is the roundpeak version of Cotton-Eyed Joe. I hate that band the rednex for ruining a perfectly good old time song. On a side note, I didn't realise I made so many gestures with my eyes while playing.

  • "Cotton Eyed Joe" was a euphemism for distilled liquor. ;)

  • Exactly, Damn sothern country players made it into some big joke. Bruce Molsky for example knows how to play a song like this the way it is supposed to be.

  • I love clawhammer and you do a fine job...and your singin' ain't bad neither! I guess I need to bread down and just pick up a banjo and DO IT!! THX t:)

  • You don't understand. Folk songs and old-time songs are never sung the same way. The way he sang is pretty close to the traditional. Old-time songs usually have over a 150 different variations, Old Joe Clark for example. The way you have heard it, is the changed and wide known version. Usually it's sang "I'd been married 40 years ago if ain't been for a man call Cotton Eyed Joe"

  • what did he say lol? thought the words were: if it hadnt been for cotton eyed joe id been married long time ago.. etc :P

  • Fabulous! Good Job! Viewer 114
