I took a break from translating Taylor Swift tunes into Spanish to revise and finally publish English lyrics for the hit Spanish song "Hijo de la Luna." I must say that this is one of the oddest songs I've ever translated, since it sounds more like an ancient folk myth than a modern pop song!
LYRICS
Only fools do not know
The old tale so oft told
Of a gypsy damsel
Who begged to the moon
Until the morning sun rose.
Tearfully she pleaded
That her wish be heeded
To wed one of her own.
You shall have your lover, bronze-skinned maiden,
Came the moons reply from its high haven,
But hear my price truly.
You must give unto me.
Your firstborn in return.
She who would ever trade
Her son for a bedmate
Would neer have loved him at all.
Moon, you wish to be Mother,
But that love eludes you which would grant you a womb.
Tell me, oh moon of silver:
How do you plan to nurse a fair child of the earth?
Oh, son of the moon!
Thus with skin like snow instead of copper
There was born a son unlike his father,
And his eyes were silver
With no hint of hazel.
Oh, pale son of the moon!
Cursed be his pallor!
This is not a Gypsy
That you have born forth to me!
Moon, you wish to be Mother,
But that love eludes you which would grant you a womb.
Tell me, oh moon of silver:
How do you plan to nurse a fair child of the earth?
Oh, son of the moon!
Believing himself to have been dishonored,
With a dagger he then set upon her.
From whose loins does he spring?
Wife, you have deceived me!
And so he ended her life.
Then he took the boy and
Scaled the nearest mountain,
Where he abandoned the child.
Moon, you wish to be Mother,
But that love eludes you which would grant you a womb.
Tell me, oh moon of silver:
How do you plan to nurse a fair child of the earth?
Oh, son of the moon!
On nights when our moon is fully shining,
Tis because the boy is gladly smiling,
And if he starts crying,
The moon wanes so gently,
And thus cradles her son.
And if he starts crying,
The moon wanes so gently,
And thus cradles her son.

this is good, truly good, this translation keeps the beauty of the poetry on the original song, and I did a translation of this song once, and it never ever matched this amazing version. Whoever did this, i stand on my feet and applause you, IT WAS SUPERB!

C'est une excellente traduction... La version existe en français, mais les paroles traduites sont assez simplistes. La traduction proposée dans cette vidéo est parfaite, ni trop pompeuse, ni médiocre. Les termes sont appropriés et la cadence respectée. Merci à l'envoyeur =}
