The BLU-109/B is a hardened penetration bomb used by United States military aircraft. (BLU is an acronym for Bomb Live Unit.) It is intended to smash through concrete shelters and other hardened structures before exploding. The BLU-109/B has a steel casing about 1 inch (25.4 mm) thick, filled with 530 lb (240 kg) of Tritonal. It has a delayed-action fuse. The BLU-109 entered service in 1985. It is also used as the warhead of some marks of the GBU-15 electro-optically guided bomb, the GBU-27 Paveway III laser-guided bomb, and the AGM-130 rocket-boosted weapon. This weapon supposedly has the same penetration as the Small Diameter Bomb, although it is not likely to be retired anytime soon, due to the much larger blast capable from its warhead.

  • I'm waiting for a multi-stage bunker buster. Stage 1: propellant, Stage 2: initial penetrant, Stage 3: intermediate payload, to soften reinforcements, Stage 4: Explosively-propelled explosive payload which waits for end of motion, void, or depth calculation before detonation.

I **SO** want to be on the design team!!

  • @pattypooh5 kinetic energy thats the magic behind it

  • goddamn wtf is that bomb made of to go through that concrete like that ?

  • SHEEEEEEOOOT! BOYS? I THINK OUR BUNKER BUSTER JUST BUSTED HIS BUNKER!

  • @normanmj Satan, watch your ass. In a few years we'll be able to fire it into Mexico and it blow up in China.

  • And to think, we just acquired the new 30,000lb Deep Earth Penetrator bunker buster made by Boeing I believe.

  • I am amazed at how it stays in tact after hitting a concrete wall 10 feet thick.

  • Mmm....not bad....But..how thick must a bunkerwall be to withstand this type bomb? And what about bunkers wich are underground?

  • i just got the strangest boner?

  • What was the point? It blew up the wall anyway.
