This is a demonstration of the Japanese martial art Shorinji Kempo, which comprised of both hard (goho) and soft (juho) techniques. This demonstration makes use of the do, or chest protector, to allow for full-force kicks and punches.
The ones they're using are not. My dojo used to use the hard ones (like kendo) back in the day. Yeah. they hurt, but they still do break after a while. Those that broke were replaced with the newer ones. I still have people put on the hard ones to condition my fists and feet every now and then.
@weloveyoudimebag Not exactly. There's several different forms of Ju Jutsu.
