The spectacular Juan Fernandez Firecrown Hummingbird is critically endangered. It lives only on 37-sq. mi. Isla Robinson Crusoe, some 435 mi. west of Chile's mainland. Watch this video to hear and see the male and female -- so different in appearance that they were once thought to be two separate species -- as well as their chicks. You can help to save this important island pollinator by contacting The Humminngbird Society at www.hummingbirdsociety.org or calling (1-800) 529-3699.

  • After listening to a British radio 4 programme on this endangered bird, I wanted to know more. I didn't even know what the Firebird looked like. Now I know, thank you for adding to my education, and the very best of luck in saving it.

  • Thanks for letting us know about this BBC audio clip! And thank you for your encouragement in our quest to protect the Firecrown.
