700 joule coilgun demo

My first coilgun build, it's AC powered and really easy to operate. You'll notice that I have no charge indicator light or display, that's because it charges in about 2 sec. (about the time that it takes to load the gun). This isn't the most powerful gun on youtube, but it's a first step for me towards the next one that I'm building which will be a 5-stage 4.2kJ gun.

@pyson89 700 joules is the energy stored in the capacitor, the kinetic energy in the projectile is measured at 7 joules.

have you ever thought of going with a higher voltage? there's some really good 450v 1000uf capacitors for fairly cheep designed for tube amps. These are what i'm going to use in my first build

700 jouls of energy stored and you get 1% of that energy at your projectile ... thats so fucking uneffective ... BUT STILL SO COOL ZOMFG !
