@coirpeach1 By Royal Charter of King James I in 1613, the town was named Londonderry, and henceforth shall be called that until such time that the monarch of this United Kingdom choose to change that. In fact, in 1984, when Londonderry City Council was dubbed 'Derry City Council' by the nationalists, the name of the town was lawfully agreed not to be changed - because it had no royal mandate to do so. Ergo, the town's 'real name', as you said, is Londonderry.
