This is a video I did during the proposed closure of multiple stations throughout Lexington, KY in order to reduce costs rather than the laying off of firefighters, emts, and paramedics. Station 4, the oldest station, and over 100 years old was the first affected on Dec 19, 2009. It is unknown yet whether other stations will follow. The "brownout" as it was called lasted 24 hours from 7 pm on the 19th to 7pm on the 20th. People normally working that station were floated to other stations to fill in for people sick or on vacation rather than filling those slots with overtime personnel. Every station is valuable to Lexington and coverage is already stretched. Closing additional firehouses even temporarily could affect that coverage. The mayor doesn't understand the significance of the service these men and women provide the city. People are dependent on them daily. Join Lexington's firefighters in their fight to prevent further brownouts or even permanent closures ! Thank you for your support !
