Alabama Consumer attorney John Watts discusses one of the most important questions that is often asked by consumers who have been sued by debt buyers - "How long do I have to respond to the collector's lawsuit against me in Alabama?"

The time limit to file an Answer (to avoid a default judgment) is counted from the time you are served with a copy of the complaint. In Circuit Court in Alabama you have 30 days to respond. In Alabama District and Small Claims Courts, you have 14 days.
