Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO's) and severe flooding were common throughout the intense storm on March 14-16, 2010. Boston received over 9 inches of rain, causing the sewer system to overflow untreated sewage into streets and waterbodies throughout the Mystic River Watershed. The Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) has a volunteer network of monitors that document SSO's. SSO's are under-reported and MyRWA is working hard to better understand the frequency and impact of SSO's in the Mystic River Watershed. You can join our team of volunteer SSO monitors. Contact MyRWA to get involved or to report an SSO at 781-316-3438 or contact@mysticriver.org.
