Hirasawa reminds me a bit of Gary Numan, how they both were pretty popular in points, but have been continuing over all these years with a very dedicated fan base (I dare say their fan bases overlap on occasion).
I kind of agree. Listen to "No Room" from the s/t album...he changes the technology and the instruments very often, but in the end they are just new ways of doing old things. Hirasawa started off on the right foot and just got better as he went along. Hearing P-Model at first I kind of thought they were a flash in the pan type group, like Plastics or even Devo, who were only really good for about 5 years. Couldn't have been more wrong, whoops!!
I don't think any other musician's evolution is as obvious (or entertaining) as that of Hirasawa's. For the past 15 years or so, his music hasn't really changed all that much I think. Not to say that's bad; he's found his niche, and it's a great one.
He's one of few musicians who likely will not lose their integrity as they age, and that, to me, is what separates music makers from true musicians.
