Filmed 03/10/09. 37706 departs Manchester Victoria working 1Z31 1941 Manchester Victoria-Preston, about to depart on time. This was Spitfire Railtours' "The Witch Way" charter.
There is a lot of shouting on this video, as this was the final day of operations on the Oldham Loop (Manchester Victoria-Rochdale via Oldham Mumps. Spitfire Railtours' operated the final steam-hauled train over the line, using 45231 Sherwood Forester for the run from Preston to Manchester Victoria via Manchester Victoria, Huddersfield, Hebden Bridge, Blackburn and Bolton. That train then headed in a circle back to Manchester Victoria, travelling via Castleton, Rochdale and Oldham Mumps.
37706 then took over for the final diesel hauled service (Only part of the tour I was aboard), which traveled in the opposite motion via Oldham Mumps, Rochdale and Castleton.
This video features 37706's departure from Manchester Victoria to Preston, where the train headed via Eccles and Wigan North Western to Preston.
45231 headed back to Carnforth Steamtown under its own power shortly after being detached from the stock after the final steam leg.
I will never, ever, ever forget this day.
