My sister and I met our parents at Castle Island on July 14. Dad was recovering from bypass surgery about two weeks prior, and Castle Island is very level and a good place to walk and it was his first trip out of Burlington since before the surgery. We saw a bunch of planes on final into Logan Airport, including an Airtran 737 which aborted its landing. It landed on its second try. There were a few international arrivals while I was there, including an Aer Lingus A330, a Swiss A 330, an Air France A340 and a Virgin Atlantic A340. After leaving Castle Island, I went to Carson Beach to meet my friend Eduardo and saw a few more planes land. According to the You Tube statistics on this one, this video is very popular in Ireland, so hello to everyone in Ireland.

  • this was nice to see.when i was a kid i use to watch the planes take off and land. i was born in Southie.

  • As someone who has walked Castle Island daily for 25 years, I have to say that days of September 11-14, 2001 were frighteningly eerie up there. The mere specter of viewing Logan across the harbor, where the two of the hijacked planes originated from, was jarring enough. But the SILENCE was even more unsettling. With no planes coming or going in the immediate aftermath, it made Castle Island almost feel desolate. And those days, ironically, were ideal weather-wise(sunny-75F)but it felt very odd.

  • @lordvader3215 yeah i go bike riding there often and im out over near where people go fishing and like a plane flies over and you just see the shadow, its awesome

  • Lordvader3215, you are correct in saying Castle Island is a great place for plane spotting, but have you taken the T over to Orient Heights in East Boston. I think it's a better place for plane spotting, but it sucks if you going to drive there, Southie is easy access by car, Eastie is a bitch to get out of, and they charge you a toll for using the Callahan tunnel. However, watching the Jets is what it's all about.

  • Whoa cool I love JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Have you ever seen the water spouts kicked up in Pleasure Bay by the plane's vortices? Castle Island rules for plane spotting. ENE at 7.

  • Oh and there's a BA or Air Fance 747 that comes in around 3.30 or 4. It's one of the few planes that turn heads.

  • i was just there today, but a bad storm came through so we had to leave =/
