Lonely, Fox-trot (Cartoux -- Costil -- Robin -- Yvain) -- Colonial Club Orchestra (Bob HARING's Band) with Vocal Chorus, Brunswick 1927 (USA)

NOTE: Bob HARING (1896-?) was an American bandleader of the 1920s and early 1930s. Most of his recordings were issued under his own name Bob Haring & His Orchestra or as Colonial Club Orchestra, on the Brunswick label, one of the three major recordings labels in the 1920s. Some of his recordings were also made for budget labels, such as Cameo, Oriole, Perfect where he used aliases The Caroliners, The Lincoln Dance Orchestra, The Society Night Club Orchestra and many others.

Haring's orchestra focused on fox-trot dance music played in a elegant style with the occasional tango and waltz. In all of these recordings, Haring emphasized a classy society sound by extensively using string instruments, such as violins, to carry the melody. This is especially evident in his elegant waltz recordings (issued as The Regent Club Orchestra). In 1929, Haring had been appointed the musical director for the Brunswick recording laboratories in New York City and he continued to record for Brunswick Records until the Warner Bros. took over the company in April of 1930 and the subsequent reorganization that took place led to the non-renewal of Haring's contract. Haring continued to work in radio until around 1935, when the introduction of swing music drastically changed the public's taste.

  • Hello Grzegorz - I like the vocals - her husky voice sounds as unique, mysterious and

fascinating as her name Vaugh de Leath. The whole upload is beautiful - your trademark. I agree with barbcard - that - at times - the most joyous holiday season - can bring out the lonelines of the heart - deep inside the soul - that all the human beings experience - at times. Have a super great holiday season and Happy New Year! Today is the first day of Hanukkah - so Happy Hanukkah to you as well!!!

  • @tango3721 Lana, her name was even more strange than that: the correct spelling was VAUGHN de Leath. Is it ever possible to meet someone in life, carrying such strange combination of sounds as his/her name? You too, have a great Hannukah and Christmas!!! See my note I just wrote to Barbcard - about my strange Xmas, this year :-)) Best to you!

  • These Colonial Clubs (Bob Haring) are all treasures in their beauty and a vocal by Vaughn is just a bonus!

  • @VictrolaJazz As a boy, I always loved that beautiful name: Colonial Club Orchestra. The word "Colonial" immediately brought into my mind the scenes from Joseph Conrad stories!

  • Thank you for the detailed insight into someone who played a major part in the 1920s music scene. The illustrations are, as always, superb.

  • @eruptionista I like the process of preparing a clip to uploading - when it had already been recorded and all I need is to write some reasonable note to it. It's so fascinating, to browse through the web, through all these forgotten biographies, and to dig deeper and deeper into the past time and see all these usually forgotten lands... it's sometimes just like a trip to Atlantis... and through it I'm learning a lot, too.

  • I'm a fan of the discreet but sophisticated bandleader and arranger he was. This is so great.

  • The title and the images tell of loneliness yet the music is as cheerful as can be. I hope your Sushi Christmas, G, will be as joyful! And you never know, this day is known for its surprise royal visitors.

  • @240252 I suspect you will enjoy your Sushi Christmas more than those of us being stifled by pudding. Your channel will be a very welcome oasis.

  • @barbcard It's very moving what you wrote here. I hope, your trip to New York will bring you a lot of joy &emotional refreshment. My Christmas will be very lonely, this time I'm not going anywhere nor the guest are arriving. I'm gonna spend all the time by my PC and writing for some magazine quite a large text about Rome. I already ordered meals for 3 days at my neighbouring restaurant - which in the meantime, changed its profile into Japanese food. So, hello my Sushi Christmas!
