I made this in response to the lack of good shoegaze demos on YouTube. That's not to say this is the best there will ever be, as you can tell, but I feel it's a start if you're looking to get into playing shoegaze guitar. This is a remake of the first video I did, which I felt didn't adequately address how to achieve a nice shoegaze tone. This time around I wanted to do it with less modeling/built-in effects from my practice amp, hence the introduction of the reverb pedal. Plus the video/sound quality was nothing to write home about.

Rundown of my gear/settings:
- Fender Jaguar Classic Player Special HH
- Boss Digital Delay DD-3 with all settings at "12"
- Boss Super Chorus CH-1 with "Rate" at "12" and the rest at maximum
- Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano set to "Spring" at maximum reverb
- Roland Micro Cube with maximum tone and gain on the "JC Clean" setting.

As I said, this works for me, but it may not be the sound you're looking for.

Subscribe for more. Eventually.

  • I can do the same sound with a single EHX Cathedral

  • @mewsic156 With a single reverb pedal? Interesting. Any videos that showcase this? I'd like to see it for myself.

  • i like your setup, but i've had issues with boss pedals and them messing up my tone. Mostly adding some unwanted treble. I guess if youre using that chrous most of the time you wouldnt really notice but do you have that problem? My band plays a mix of shoegaze and punk so it was pretty noticable for me when i had the boss pedals off

  • @Billyjayi I can't say I've noticed anything. If I had money to burn I'd definitely experiment with some other brands, since the majority of my pedals are Boss.

  • nice rundown

  • I had a lot of trouble with the Grail. Dude word of advice, upgrade to the Cathedral. Best decision I ever made!

Or just go strait to the Blue Sky by Strymon. Blows Cathedral out of the water.

  • @signeponge I like that idea. I didn't try it out for myself but want to give it a go once I'm at home and have access to all my guitar stuff again.

  • @Strume42 : usually the reverb is the last pedal, after distortion, modelation and delay (in principle you want to reverberate the final sound and not modelate an echo), but I guess it's however suits one better :)

  • @caribez I'm satisfied but it's not very versatile. In your case, the best thing to do would be what I did, which is read reviews and watch videos of others using the pedal, then decide on your own if you want it or not. It's not the best method, but it still works.

  • @Strume42

So you're not all satisfied with the DD-3? Man, there's so many delay pedals I don't know which one to get. Problem is the music store in my town barely have any pedals at all.
